Saints attain double wins in National Twenty/20 Cricket Competition

Guardian General Saints came up trumps in their two matches last weekend in the national Twenty/20 Cricket Competition.

On Saturday, they beat Buccament Bay Androids at Stubbs, then on Sunday at Arnos Vale Two, they saw off Victors Two by seven wickets.{{more}}

Androids scored 116 for 6 from their 20 overs, to which Saints replied with 108 for 1. Rickford Walker led the way with 46.

Walker was again the main contributor to Saints’ total on Sunday.

Responding to Victors Two’s 102 all out in 18.3 overs, Saints compiled 102 for 3, with Walker 47 not out. When Victors Two batted, Teran Simon earned 4 for 23, including a hat-trick. Dawnley Grant hit 23 in Victors Two’s total.

Earlier on Sunday, at the same venue, Victors Two crafted a 33-run win over Androids.

In a match reduced to 10 overs because of rain, Victors Two scored 98 for 1 off 10 overs.

Androids replied with 65 for 7 from their 10 overs. Obed Mc Coy was the top scorer with 30. Denson Hoyte — 2 for 6 and Delroy Compton — 2 for 8, were the main wicket takers for Victors Two.

Meanwhile, Police Two had one win and one defeat on Sunday.

Facing Triumph United at Stubbs, the lawmen lost by 33 runs, but when they journeyed to Arnos Vale One in the afternoon they took revenge on Bequia, beating them by 50 runs.

Triumph reached 91 for 2 from their maximum 12 overs, as rain forced a reduction in the overs. Rohan Ash struck 36.

Shammon Hopper — 3 for 16, Travis Cumberbatch — 2 for 8 and Maxwell Edwards — 2 for 9, locked in Police Two for 65. Elmore Alexander was the lead batsman, with 25 not out.

Again, rain played a part at Arnos Vale One, as the match was reduced to 15 overs in the first instance, then to 12.

Police Two batted first and posted 123 for 6 from their 15 overs. Donson Andrews — 40 and Mc Leon Williams – 24, were the prime scorers.

Jenry Ollvierre picked off 4 for 28 and Shirlon Pompey — 2 for 15, bowling for Bequia.

But Bequia’s reply halted at 73 for 3 off 12 overs; Cosmos Hacksaw made 24. Bowling for Police Two, Kenneth Dember took 2 for 15.

Bequia and Rivals Two had to sit out their intended match on Sunday morning, as a wet pitch and rain prevented any play.

Both teams shared the points, likewise used the downtime, compliments their various electronic devices, to view the West Indies and South Africa play in the second Twenty/20 International.(RT)
