New level one track and field coaches await induction
Another set of level one track and field coaches are awaiting their final certification.
Counting 16, the new coaches will be added to the count of the close to 200 already certified. The coaches completed two weeks of practical and theoretical training at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.{{more}}
Among the areas drilled in were an introduction to âKids in Athletics,â âGrowth and Development In Athletesâ and âPrinciples of Coaching.â
During the period, the coaches were tutored in the sprints and middle distances, as well as the throws and jumps.
Local level one instructors Rosmund Griffith and Rawlson Morgan were the facilitators.
Morgan summarized that the two weeks were very fruitful, as the participants showed enthusiasm.
âIt was not without its challenges, as in the second week some (the participants) came down with injuries because of the intensity of the course,â Morgan told SEARCHLIGHT.
Morgan noted that some of the intended full complement of 28 participants either never showed up or fell by the wayside for varying reasons.
The certified coaches would be formally inducted on January 24 next year, when Team Athletics SVG holds its annual prize giving and awards ceremony, at a venue still to be confirmed.(RT)
