Showdown looms in National Football Club Championships Premier race

Three football clubs have positioned themselves to take the top prize in the Hairoun Beer National Club Championships.{{more}}

Guardian General Hope International, Comsports System Three and Campdonia-Chelsea are all in with a chance of lifting the winner’s trophy and the $10, 000 prize at stake.

Hope International though, is in pole position on maximum 15 points from five matches, and has a match in hand.

It is expected that, based on form, Hope International is favoured to overcome Toni’s Stores Jugglers, when the two meet tomorrow, Wednesday, at the Victoria Park.

And, Hope International will be going all out to up its goal difference, as this can be a determining factor, as the title race can go down to the wire.

A re-energised Hope International, which struggled to reach the Super Eight of the competition, has had an injection of sorts, with the acquisition of Reginald Richardson from the 2013 winners BESCO Pastures.

Richardson has bolstered their defence, while Cornelius Stewart has added some creativity and added zip in Hope International’s midfield and striking departments.

Both Richardson and Stewart are returning from stints in Finland.

The other title chasers, Campdonia-Chelsea and Comsports System Three, both sit on 15 points, and with a game in hand.

Campdonia-Chelsea faces three-time champions Avenues, who has 10 points, while System Three has Hope International on their agenda.

These matches would be decided on Sunday at the Victoria Park.

Campdonia-Chelsea and System Three bettered their standings last Sunday, with comfortable wins.

It was a 4-1 triumph for Campdonia-Chelsea over GTM Prospect, while System Three blanked Avenues 2 -nil, as the latter suffered their fourth defeat in this year’s competition.

This, after Avenues went four years without losing.

The other teams in the Super Eight are Sion Hill and Parkside Rollers.

Meanwhile, System Three’s Shandell Samuel and Tevin Slater of Campdonia-Chelsea head up the goal scoring chart with 17 goals each. (RT)
