National Games serving Special Olympics’ objectives

The 2014 National Games of Special Olympics of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SOSVG) went off as planned last Friday and Saturday at the Victoria Park.{{more}}

And despite the inclement weather, especially on Saturday, the spirit of the special athletes, who all gave of their best, was not dampened.

In keeping with the oath of the games, “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me brave in my attempt,” the athletes truly lived up to this mantra.

With all being winners, the top three places were given medals – gold, silver and bronze, with the other participants receiving ribbons.

Following Friday’s opening ceremony, a Five-a-Side football match was played among the athletes. Saturday’s activities included the track and field events.

Among the events run off, were the 25m, 50m and 100m, for the Juniors, Intermediates and Seniors, respectively.

The Softball Throw, the Standing Long Jump, the 25m Walk and the exciting bocce, completed the day’s events.

St Vincent and the Grenadines Special Olympians are preparing for the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles, California, USA.

A contingent of 28 athletes and six officials will represent this country.

Participation would be in the disciplines – aquatics, athletics, bocce, football and tennis. (RT)
