Mitchell, of the St Vincent Grammar School, had to dig deep to outlast the Dr JP Eustace Memorial’s Imani King, as the two went the distance of five sets.

Exhibiting contrasting styles, the right-handed exuberant Mitchell had to contend with the south-paw King, who in the main remained calm and collected.

However, in the end, the more experienced Mitchell, cheered on by his school-mates and family members prevailed 11/5, 6/11, 9/11, 11/9, 11/7.

It was revenge for Mitchell, who earlier in the afternoon lost in straight sets to King, when both met in the teams’ semi-finals.

In addition, Mitchell walked away with the Most Valuable Player award.

Taking the singles among the females was Rodika Webb, who defeated Mililone Edwards 11/7, 9/11 11/8. Both Webb and Edwards are from the West St George Secondary School.

Following last Friday’s action on the green tables, there was a short closing ceremony, in which the top performers received their prizes.

There were brief remarks from president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis Association Tyrone Jack and senior education officer in the Ministry of Education Asfo Stephens.

The tournament’s point man was Sean Stanley of the Division of Physical Education and Sports. (RT)
