Sutherland, in an interview this week, said that he has been playing football since the age of 10, but never took it seriously until a few years ago.

“Cricket was my favourite sport,” he admitted, while stressing that he started out playing in the left back position, “but loved goalkeeping, so I went straight into it.”

He added that he has been playing for Axis Network Choppins for the last three years, while he admires Spanish team Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

“Casillas’ one-on-one saves are brilliant and I also like how he reads the game,” said Sutherland.

He said that he is aspiring to keep a clean sheet in the 2014 Hairoun Stubbs Football Competition, so that his team can win the league.

The selectors chose Sutherland because of his determination, assertiveness and bravery displayed throughout his games.
