Kiddy cricketers go forth to Grassroots programme

Twenty-four of the 60 young cricketers who were part of the Scotia Bank Kiddy cricket camp last week have been identified to advance for further development, through the local chapter of the Grassroots’ cricket programme.{{more}}

Those making up the lot are: Jenna Frederick and Kyronique Phillips from the Greiggs Primary; Shamarra Baptiste, Leo Defreitas, Keadon Hackshaw and Keenan Mc Millian from South Rivers Methodist; from the Paget Farm Government come McKoy Hazell and Kodi Williams; Deroj and Kyle Williams from the Pamelus Burke Primary.

The selectees from the Park Hill Government are Donice Da Souza, Dwayne Henry and Devonte Mc Dowall, with Kshorn Browne coming from the Buccament Government; Zonique Patterson – Layou Government; Rosique Toney – Richland Park Government; Luke Wilson – St Mary’s RC and Marlon Simmons – Bequia Anglican.

The list is completed by Anthony Browne – Lowmans Windward Anglican; Shamar Conlifffe – Belair Government; Gideon Richards – Fitz-Hughes Government; Akeen Alexander – Cane End Government; Newton Browne – Petersville Primary and Jaemuri Charles – Lauders Government. The five-day camp also awarded those who excelled in the various components of the sport.

Rosique Toney was adjudged best batsman, Mc Koy Hazell, best bowler and Kyle Williams, best wicketkeeper. Scooping the best fielder award was Anthony Browne; most improved player – Jenna Fredericks of the Greiggs Government and the most disciplined student – Jessilla Mc Kie of the Cane End Government.

The second edition of the camp was staged at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, August 4 to 8.

Among the areas covered during the camp were the basic rudiments of the game, nutrition, injury prevention, personal hygiene and development, the use of illegal substances and the laws of the game.

Facilitators for the camp were Stanley Hinds, Uzzah Pope, William “Bill” Edwards, Ian Allen, Bertram Stapleton, as well as personnel from the Ministry of Health and the Environment, and the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force.(RT)
