Maple, Mitres rumble Thursday for Division One national netball honours

The usual battle lines between the two top teams in Division One of the LIME National Netball Club Tournament have been drawn for yet another year.{{more}}

And, this Thursday from about 6 p.m., things will come to a head at the Kingstown Netball Centre, when Vita Malt Maple face off against arch rivals- Western Union Mitres, as the two will decide the division league winners.

The two are locked on three wins each.

Mitres defeated ASCO One 62-25 and had an 85-34 downing of Bank of St Vincent and the Grenadines Valley Netters. Maple also saw off French Verandah X-Ceed – 63-40.

Maple, the 2013 double crowned champions, have scored 210 goals and have conceded 99, with a goal differential of 111.

On the other hand, Mitres beat ASCO One – 87-26, likewise registered a 65-31 win over Bank of St Vincent and the Grenadines Valley Netters and stopped French Verandah X- Ceed, 51-37.

Mitres tally of goals stands at 203, with 94 registered against them, hence a goal difference of 109.

When the two met in the 2013 edition, they finished all squared at 54, and it was the goal differential which tipped in Maple’s favour, hence the title.

Critical to Thursday’s match will be the accuracy of those persons in the circle.

Maple will again be depending on the sure hands of Skiddy Francis- Crick, with Mitres’ ace shooter Gailene Gordon carrying the weight on her shoulders. (RT)
