Wright on cue with century

“Ah making a century tomorrow; big bat fuh dem.”

Those were the words of Rolando “Maffie” Wright, as he predicted what he would do against the Police One bowling, come Sunday at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field, when he got his opportunity to bat.{{more}}

And, this he did, as he slammed 110 not out, his third century in the Premier Division of the local cricket competitions.

The former law officer used the long handle to collar his ex-cohorts, to see Guardian General Saints to 303 for 6 in reply to Police One’s 186 all out.

Wright slammed 13 fours and 3 sixes in his knock. Zane Edwards, 63, Omar Lorraine, 42, and Timothy Warner, 33, contributed to Saints’ total.

Before last Sunday, Wright, known more for his orthodox spin, had crafted centuries in 2003 and 2005. Both came versus Victors One, when he then turned out for Police Two.

When the match got going on Saturday, Police One, who were in the dumps, having suffered from their previous innings defeats, scratched their way to 186 all out.

Their total could have been fewer, but the Saints team brought their butter fingers to the venue, spilling several catches that were on offer.

Dominic Sutherland rallied to 59, in which he battered 8 fours. There were also 24 extras, which aided Police One’s cause.

Bowling for Saints, Rickford Walker took 2 for 28, Ray Charles, 2 for 39 and Rolando Wright, 2 for 54.

At the close of play on Sunday, Police One was 104 for 4; Marcus John made 34.

In another drawn match, Carl Joseph Law Chambers ASCO earned first inning honours over joint defending champions Victors One at the Stubbs Playing Field.

Batting first, Victors One scored 115; Donwell Hector hit 56.

Bowling for ASCO, Andre Hunte snared 3 for 35.

ASCO then responded with 172 all out; Andre Hunte had 34. Victors One’s bowling was led by Keron Cottoy, who nabbed 5 for 52 and Kenneth Dembar, 3 for 52.

And, batting a second time, Victors One was dismissed for 184. Again, the man at the helm, Hector, crafted 56 and Lauron Francois, 31.

Andre Hunte was in the thick of things once more, taking 3 for 53, while Darius Martin took 2 for 23.

In pursuit of 128 for an outright win, ASCO was reeling at 61 for 8 at the close.

Shaquille Browne, 3 for 14 and Kenneth Dembar, 3 for 21, threatened with the ball for a come from behind win for one half of the reigning champions. (RT)
