The GSS made a winning start in both the male and female divisions of the competition, which spiked off last Friday at the National Lotteries Authority hard court and the Girls’ High School hard court.

Georgetown Secondary School males who lost out to the George Stephens Secondary in the two previous finals- 2012 and 2013, thrashed both opponents in back to back matches in the competition’s openers.

Feeling the weight of the Georgetown lads were Bequia Community High School and the Petit Bordel Secondary, who both suffered two sets to nil losses.

The females of the Georgetown institution followed suit in dismissing the Girls’ High School in their back yard, also 2-0.

Georgetown females reached the finals in 2012, but were ousted by the St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown who went on to retain the title last year.

Seven schools are vying for honours in the female division and eight in the male segment.

Following the preliminary round of the competition, the two top finishers from the two zones meet in the semifinals. The match ups feature the winner of Zone A meeting the runner-up in Zone B and winner of Zone B engaging the runner-up of Zone A.

The semi-finals are slated for February 24 and 25 at the Girls’ High School hard court.

The semi-final losers would come back at that venue for the third place play offs on February 25.

The grand finale is set for the National Lotteries Authority hard court on February 28. (RT)
