Gabrielle Benn, twin sister of Armalia Benn, whom she defeated in the Girls 14 Singles Final, was the first champion crowned.

She defeated her twin sister Armalia, 5-3, 4-2, on Thursday afternoon at the Grassroot Tennis Club courts at Murray’s Road in Kingstown, to be the 2013 SVG General Services-sponsored Grassroot Tennis Club Christmas Tennis Tournament Girls 14 Singles Champion.

Gabrielle, along with her sister Armalia, won the Girls 14 Doubles Final with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of K. Williams and K. Lampkin at the National Tennis Centre.

Gabrielle took the Girls 16 Singles title with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Luka Lyttle at the Grassroots Tennis Club courts, her third title of the tournament.

Imani King took the Boys 18 Singles title with a 7-6 6-3 defeat of Taj Ballantyne at the National Tennis Centre, and later, at the same venue, he won the Boys 21 Singles title with a straight set 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Darrell Franklyn.

Then, later in the final match of the Grassroots Tennis Club Christmas Tennis tournament, Imani King and A. Guy, in a mouth-watering three-setter, defeated A. Cyrus and T. Ballantyne 2-6, 6-2, 10-5 in the Boys 18 Doubles Final at the Grassroots Tennis Club.

In the Girls 21 Singles Final, Lesha Emile defeated Christine Edmund 6-3 4-6, 6-4, and in the Boys 16 Singles final, Taj Ballantyne stopped Sebastien Cyrus 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.

Over at the Grassroots Tennis Club courts, Luka Lyttle prevailed in her Girls 18 Singles Final with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 three-set victory, and Richard Hoyte defeated Rondell Williams 4-1, 4-0 in the Boys 14 Singles final.

In the other final, A. Cain and R. Williams defeated A. White and M. Francis 7-5, 7-6(4) in the Boys 14 Doubles final, with the prize-giving ceremony bringing to an end an action-packed SVG General Services-sponsored Grassroots Tennis Club’s Christmas Tennis Tournament.
