TBPO Softball Cricket Competition enters semi-finals door

Three teams have joined defending champion CGM Novice in the semi-final phase of the National Lotteries Authority Top Belair Progressive Organisation’s Twenty/20 Softball Cricket Competition.{{more}}

Entry to the doorway for Gairy’s Construction Simple Boys, Gomea Bombers and EZ Wood Toppers came last weekend as quarter-final action took centre stage at the Dauphine Playing Field.

Simple Boys dismissed Georgie Valley Saints by seven wickets.

The Saints made 98 for 7 in 15 overs; Ozico Williams – 33 and Ronnel Simmons – 23.

Eldon Morris picked 3 for 10 and Travis Cumberbatch 2 for 13, as Simple Boys then went about the semi-final march with a response of 99 for 3 in 10.1 overs.

Desron Maloney – 32, Stein Joseph – 22 and Nicos Davis 21 not out, chartered the course with the bat to the last four of the competition.

Gomea Bombers, last year’s runner-up, won over Out Ah Trouble by 14 runs in match that ended prematurely.

Bombers batted first and made 88 all out in 12.4 overs; Edwin Joe had 28.

Bowling for Out Ah Trouble, Sunil James took 3 for 9, Nico Ottley 2 for 19 and Osbourne Dasent 2 for 20.

Reports are that Out Ah Trouble was 74 for 9 in 12.4 overs, when things got ugly.

It is said that an Out Ah Trouble player, when given out by the umpire, took his bat and knocked the stumps out of the ground, then, along with his team mates, began to abuse the presiding umpire.

In between the melee, Wayne Harper had knocked in 22, while Ovando O’ Brien had snared 3 for 17 and Osbourne Franklin – 2 for 14.

And, Toppers, on the back of Mile Bascombe’s 77 and Marcus Hackshaw’s 20 not out, despite Cody Jarvis’ – 2 for 18, responded with 136 for 3 from 18 overs, to overcome Nar Fren Dem by seven wickets.

Nar Fren Dem had batted first and posted 132 for 8 from their 20 overs; Damron Prince struck 40

Bowling for Toppers, Venardo Primus had 3 for 23, Chris King 2 for 17 and Miles Bascombe 2 for 30.

The semi-finals pit Simple Boys versus Gomea Bombers from 1:30 pm on Saturday.

Toppers and Novice are set for Sunday, at a time to be announced by the organisers.(RT)
