Invitational Swim meet a success – Black Sands Swim Squad

Black Sands Swim Squad successfully hosted their very first swim meet last weekend, the 2013 United Insurance/Black Sands Invitational Swim Meet.{{more}}

Over 70 competitors representing Black Sands Swim Squad, Blue Marlins Swimming Club and Swim Bequia took part in the event along with six children from Grenfins Swim Club from neighbouring Grenada who travelled to St Vincent with their families for the event.

St Vincent’s swimmers collected a flurry of Gold Silver and Bronze medals whilst also recording some national records and demonstrating that the sport of swimming is growing from strength to strength throughout the country. Twenty-four Black Sands swimmers completed their races in podium positions, followed by 16 swimmers from Blue Marlins and three swimmers from Swim Bequia. All six swimmers from the visiting Grenfins Swim Club also returned home with medals.

Founders and Coaches of Black Sands Swim Squad, Kyle Dougan and Sarah Smith commented on the results of the event saying “It was a fantastic weekend of swimming here in St Vincent. We were especially pleased with the amount of swimmers that were able to take part. St Vincent is starting to produce some extremely talented swimmers and the future is looking very promising for the sport of competitive swimming in St Vincent. We would like to thank our event sponsor United Insurance, the St Vincent and the Grenadines Swimming Federation and the local community for their support.”

Tamara Brackin, local representative for United Insurance, commended the members and coaches of the Black Sand Swim Squad for their vision in hosting the meet.
