Vincentian duos at NORCECA Beach Volleyball circuit
Two pairs â one male and one female, will carry the flag of St Vincent and the Grenadines at the ninth circuit of the 2013 NORCECA Beach Volleyball tour, set for Pigeon Point in St Lucia.{{more}}
The male duo of Cassius Franklyn and Kemual Lee and the female combination of Ladonna Woodley and Nikita Campbell will represent St Vincent and the Grenadines.
When St Vincent and the Grenadines contested the St Lucia circuit in 2012, Daryl Franklyn and Cluevvan Cumberbatch formed the male team, while Campbell and Bownie Allicott made up the female combination.
The Vincentian pairs are relatively inexperienced in competitive beach volleyball, but will have to contend with many seasoned players who ply the circuit annually.
When the eighth circuit concluded in California, last Sunday, the USA-A team of Lane Carico and Heather Hughes defeated compatriots Sarah Day and Kaitlin Nielsen of USA-B, 21-12, 21-17, and won the gold at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista.
Carico and Heather Hughes went 5-0 in matches and 10-0 in sets.
Sundayâs victory was the second straight NORCECA title for Carico, who, on September 22, won an event in Puerto Rico with Sara Hughes.
On the menâs side, it was again USA taking gold, as their B team of Theo Brunner and Nick Lucena fought off a challenge from compatriots Tri Bourne and John Hyden of USA-A.
Brunner and Lucena finished the tournament with a 5-0 match record and 10-1 in sets.
The NORCECA circuit concludes December 1 in Trinidad and Tobago, the 11th leg.(RT)
