SVGFF dishes out awards for national competitions

Prizes and awards for the 2012 National Club Championships and the 2013 National Inter Community League Competition were distributed by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) last Tuesday evening, at a ceremony at the SVGFF’s Office at Bentinck Square.{{more}}

Despite the absence of some pomp, there was a trailer load of rewards for the recipients. The individual awards, however, were mainly channelled to the national inter community league competition. The senior men’s division saw Marlo Marshall of South Leeward taking the Most Outstanding Goal- keeper award, with Most Outstanding Defender, going to Barrouallie’s Roy Richards.

The Most Outstanding Midfielder went also to champion league Barrouallie, and to team captain Dorren Hamlet. Central Kingstown’s Azhino Solomon won the Most Goals award, with Marlo Marshall, the Most Valuable Player of the final.

The SVGFF also awarded the Break Out Coach, which was pouched by Yosiah Dascent of Marriaqua. Coach of Champions went to South Leeward’s Kelvin Yorke, while Nazir Mc Burnette was voted the Most Promising Player. The MVP of champions went to Barrouallie’s Kyle Edwards.

In the Women’s Division, the Most Outstanding Goalkeeper was Sheree Ann John of East Kingstown; Most Outstanding Defender, Judy Bacchus of South Leeward, with the Most Outstanding Midfielder copped by Darie-ann Duncan, also of South Leeward.

The dominance continued for South Leeward, as the awards for the Most Goals and MVP of the finals were stashed away by Kandice Franklyn.

Kyle Edwards of Barrouallie was the Under-17 Division’s top goal scorer, as well as MVP of the final. His teammate Nathan Griffith claimed the Most Outstanding Goalkeeper award, and Ashano Benjamin, also of Barrouallie – the Most Outstanding Midfielder. South Leeward, which placed second in the competition, took away the Most Outstanding Defender award, which went to Derron Rouse.

Joel Quashie of the winning outfit Layou, left the venue with two awards: Most Outstanding Midfielder and MVP of the finals. Bahari Dopwell, of runner-up East Kingstown, was adjudged the Most Outstanding Goalkeeper; Most Outstanding Defender was Joash Nash of Layou and Most Goals, Azor Baptiste of Layou.

Avenues copped the premier and Under-17 divisions of the National Club Championships; Richland Park Pride and Joy, the first division; Prospect – the women’s division and System 3, the Under-13.

President of the SVGFF Venold Coombs boasted at last Tuesday’s prize-giving ceremony that the trophy trough had a value of over $10,000.

Apart from Coombs, Minister of Tourism, Sports and Culture Cecil Mc Kie gave brief remarks.(RT)
