Stapleton was continuing where he left off last season, as defending champions Abuja of Spring Village smothered Robertson Surveyors Rising Stars of Rose Hall by 143. Supporting Stapleton was Harley Skerritt, who slammed 52.

But Rising Stars could not get their trig points and batting bearings right, and were bowled out for 113 off 14 overs.

The draftsman for the site plan for Ajuba was Roneil Jeffrey, who captured 5 for 19, including a hat-trick.

Ten teams, in two zones are contesting this year’s competition.

Comprising Zone One are the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, Circumstances of Fitz Hughes, Sharps United of Chateaubelair, Robertson Surveyors Rising Stars of Rose Hall and defending champions Abuja of Spring Village.

In Zone Two are Troumaca United, Troumaca Starlights, Somerset of Rose Bank, Rudy’s Electrical and Peto Stars of Petit Bordel.

Matches will be played in a round robin format in the preliminary stage of the competition, with four teams from each zone qualifying for the quarter-finals.

The elimination process will then begin, as the quarter-final winners advance to the semis.

Likewise, the winners of the semi-finals go forth to the final.

The competition is being staged under the auspices of the North Leeward Sports Association and is sanctioned by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association. (RT)
