SVG netballers trump Tobago title

St Vincent and the Grenadines Under-23 netballers played unbeaten to lift the Tobago Netball League 50th anniversary celebrations quadrangular invitational series last weekend at the Shaw Park courts in Tobago.{{more}}

The Vincentian outfit, which boasts most of the players who pouched the 2012 OECS title in Grenada last July, defeated Grenada, Guyana and drew with Tobago.

First up, the Vincentians outlasted Grenada 33-29 on Thursday, with goal shooter Shellisa Davis registering 25 from her 35 and goal attack Shanique de Shong 8 from 15.

Then on Friday night, the Vincentians made light work of Guyana, beating them 61-11.

Davis made good 50 of her 72 attempts, de Shong 2 of her 5, and Shanice Daniel 9 of her 13.

The Vincentians, on Saturday night, drew 33-33 with the host.

Davis poured in 26 of her 41 attempts and de Shong had 7 of her 10 attempts.

In other matches, Tobago whipped Guyana 46-11; Grenada overcame Tobago 36-34; and Grenada ousted Guyana 43-11.

Delonie Sam was ajudged SVG’s most valuable player.

The successful Vincentian team, which was coached by Moeth Gaymes and managed by Natasha Sandy- Stapleton, returned home Monday. (RT)
