Greaves takes the spotlight

Deron Greaves of the champion school, the George Stephens Secondary, walked away with the major awards when the 2012 United Insurance Secondary Schools’ Cricket Competition held its presentation ceremony last Monday at the Arnos Vale One Playing Field.{{more}}

The portly Greaves recorded the most runs, 511, and had the best batting average, 85.16.

Greaves also recorded the highest individual score, 164, made against the St Vincent Grammar School in the semi finals. It was his second century in the competition, as he also scored 159 against the Central Leeward Secondary School in the quarter-finals, when he lashed 13 fours and 13 sixes.

Greaves also added the Best All Rounder title to his list, as he captured 19 wickets, to go along with his batting achievements.

Greaves capped it off as he was the obvious choice for the Most Valuable Player in the competition.

Greaves, who was part of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Under-19 Cricket team to the 2011 Windwards Tournament, was delighted with his many awards, as he spoke to SEARCHLIGHT last Monday, with his trophies weighing down his hands.

“I feel real good at what I have achieved, as my coach always tells me that hard work brings success,” he said with delight.

His achievement at the schools’ level comes on the heels of him being called up for trials to the St Vincent and the Grenadines senior squad to the 2012 Windwards T/20 competition, an opportunity which he relishes.

“It is a great opportunity for me to go out there and showcase my talent and later on get on to the West Indies team,” Greaves stated.

Also in the spotlight was Rhazene Da Breo of the St Vincent Grammar School, who took the most wickets, 20.

The Georgetown Secondary School’s Ricarvo Williams recorded the best bowling figures of 7 for 34, attained against Adelphi Secondary.

Also, the diminutive Anson Latchman of the St Vincent Grammar School was the Most Outstanding Wicketkeeper. (RT)
