United Survivors’ Coach lauds all-round effort

Coach of the United Survivors Cricket team Wendell Glasgow has credited his team’s all-round ability for their victory in the inaugural RBTT Bank Women’s T/20 Cricket Competition.{{more}}

United Survivors formalized the title last Saturday afternoon in an abandoned fixture against Tigress at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field, having played unbeaten in the competition.

Tigress was labouring at 29 for 4 off 10. 5 overs, when a heavy shower and the players’ inability to pull on the heavy covers in time ended the proceedings.

A delighted Glasgow told SEARCHLIGHT last Saturday at the Arnos Vale venue: “Survivors has always been an all-round team; most of the players can bat and bowl and our fielding is very good, as we have very good fielders.”

Commenting on the preparations for this year’s competition, Glasgow said, “We did a lot of work this year and we had batsmen this year, who knew what they had to do in this format.”

The triumphant Coach said that it took many days of practice at the Dauphine Playing Field for his players to adjust to the 20-over format, having been accustomed to the longer 40-overs set-up.

“All of the players were well prepared in terms of adjusting, realizing that we are playing 20/20, and the plan has to be different and we did work hard on this and it has paid off,“ Glasgow revealed.

Looking down the road, Glasgow said “We are looking towards the future in building our team.”

He said that, slowly, they are grafting in some young players, so as to maintain their team’s strength.

Having dominated the local scene for several years now, Glasgow admitted that his team is continuing to test its skills against regional female teams.

“We are always looking forward to travel, because part of our objective is not only local, but also regional, but we have been successful so far,” Glasgow stated.

Apart from United Survivors’ dominance at the local level, they also account for a large chunk of the selectees on the Senior St Vincent and the Grenadines team. (RT)
