Bequia T/20 Cricket Competition moving merrily along
Former champions Admiralty Transport Company Youth Combine, Village Apartments Port Elizabeth and South Side United were in winnerâs row last weekend as the Bequia Twenty/20 Cricket Competition{{more}} continued at the Clive Tannis Playing Field in Port Elizabeth.
On Saturday, Youth Combine got past Christ Warriors Canouan by 18 runs. Youth Combine made 156 for eight off 20 overs, with McNeil Morgan leading the way with 49; Jenson Ollivierre made 36 and Chelson Stowe 28.
Bowling for Canouan, Zano Mack had 3 for 34 and Kevin Hazel took 2 for 18.
In reply, Canouanâs innings closed at 138 for 6 from their 20 overs.
Colin Williams struck 53 and Kazim Yearwood 25, but this was not enough to get them over the line. Jenry Ollivierre picked up 2 for 25 and Ellis Lavia 2 for 31 for Youth Combine.
In Sundayâs first encounter, Port Elizabeth defeated RBTT Carib Stars by seven wickets.
Carib Stars posted 188 for 7 from their 20 overs. Desron Lavia hit 71, Shirlan Pompey 32 and Vernon Williams 24.
Bernard Derrick snapped up 3 for 20 and Calvin Hazel took 2 for 30, to be Port Elizabethâs most successful bowlers.
Port Elizabeth rushed to 192 for 3 in 18.3 overs, with former national footballer Burton Forde leading the run chase with 83 and Orlanzo Billingy striking 67, not out.
In the other match, South Side United beat Manicou by eight wickets.
Batting first, Manicou made 112, all out, off 18 overs. Veron Henry made 41.
In reply, South Side United took a mere 8.2 overs to reach 114 for 2. Ronald Campbell lashed 53, not out and Kenrick Cozier contributed 43.
This weekendâs matches see Manicou facing Imperial Pharmacy West Side Knockers on Saturday from 2:00 pm. On Sunday, Youth Combine will meet Port Elizabeth from 10:00 am and later at 2:00 pm, reigning champions, Knights Trading Aussies oppose JSM Royal Challengers.(RT)
