Female cricketers begin their quest for glory

The 2012 RBTT Bank Women’s National T/20 Cricket Competition opened last weekend at the Stubbs Playing Field with four matches.

First on Saturday, they beat the development team Rising Stars; then, on Sunday got the better of Ajuba.

Sheree Ann John 3 for 3 and Mellissa Billingy 3 for 7, combined to dismiss Rising Stars for 56. Edelyn Turtin topscored for Rising Stars with 16.

In reply, Tigress reached 57 for 3, with veteran player Jean Blutcher making 23.

Batting first against Ajuba, Tigress posted 119 for 1 in their 20 overs. Jean Blutcher was once again their main stay with 48 not out. Sherry Ann Adams contributed 31.

Ajuba was shot out for 24. Sheree Ann bagged 4 for 5 and Stacy Ann Adams had 2 for no run.

Rising Stars rebounded to outplay Ajuba by two wickets.

Ajuba, batting first made 92. Sandra Samuel scored 19. Zavier Ann Stephens took 3 for 9 and Edelyn Turtin 3 for 14.

Rising Stars then reached 93 for 8. Samantha Caine led the scoring with 18.

Darren Charles picked up 2 for 19.

Also United Survivors, the defending champions, defeated Garifuna Stars by 38 runs.

Camille Garrick scored 38 and Samantha Lynch hit 31, as United Survivors got to 110 for 9 from their 20 overs.

Bowling for Garifuna Stars, Leris Nero captured 3 for 22 and Terisha Lavia took 2 for 17.

In reply, Garifuna was dismissed for 72. Hazel Ann Foster hit 29, as Clea Hoyte 4 for 12 and Cordel Jack 2 for 7, did the damage with the ball for United Survivors.

The competition shifts to the London Playing Field this weekend, with Garifuna Stars involved in all three matches.

On Saturday from 1:30 p.m., they face United Survivors. On Sunday from 10 a.m., Garifuna Stars take on Tigress and from 1:30 p.m., the host team meets Rising Stars. (RT)
