Kingstown regains local Masters Cricket glory

Log Enterprises Kingstown is the 2011 SVG Masters T/20 Cricket champion.{{more}}

Kingstown, last Sunday, January 15, regained the title, when they stopped an advancing CK Greaves Vintage Arnos Vale at the Grammar School Playing Field.

Set 119 to win, Kingstown responded with 121 for 7 from 16.5 overs. Taking Kingstown home were Hollis John who made 15 not out and Ancil Hooper 13 not out, after a streak of late wickets by Arnos Vale’s lead bowler James George, 3 for 23, threatened to wrest the initiative from Kingstown.

Charted by their captain Joseph Carrington, Kingstown was cruising towards the target before George struck. Among his scalps was that of Carrington, who made 42.

Carrington was later named Player of the Final.

Opening batsman Lawrence Shoy contributed 18. Ted Roberts was Arnos Vale’s next best bowler with 2 for 11.

In the first half of the match, Arnos Vale got up to 118 for 9, from their 20 overs. Leading the way was Elvis Charles who hit 22; Mc Neil Morgan struck 2 sixes and 2 fours in his breezy 20. James George contributed 16.

Equalling Charles’ score was Extras, as Kingstown’s bowling was untidy, conceding several wides.

Morgan’s dismissal, bowled by Joseph Medford, proved the turning point in Arnos Vale’s innings.

Bowling for Kingstown, Bradley Brooker took 2 for 4, and Hollis John, 2 for 30, and their batsmen went by the run out route.

Kingstown, who won the competition in 2009, left joyous with $1,200, a trophy, and products from Log Enterprises, but most of all, bragging rights.

Arnos Vale earned $800, a trophy as well as products from Log Enterprises.

It was Arnos Vale second final for the day, having defeated Sion Hill in the finals of the Sixes Competition. That title saw them earning $600 and trophy.

Mc Neil Morgan was the obvious choice for Player of the Tournament for his 383 runs and 15 wickets.

Morgan was the leading run scorer and joint top wicket taker with Joseph Medford. However, Medford nipped Morgan, having a more economical runs per wicket average.

Ted Roberts got the Play of the Day Award for his comprehensive dismissal of Bradley Brooker, bowled.

There were two five wickets hauls, taken by Ezekiel Trimmingham of Pastures and Pat Warner of Arnos Vale.

The Log Enterprises Knock Out Competition begins this weekend. RSVG Police are the defending champions. (RT)
