Another set of firsts in Schools’ Football

The organizers of the Coca Cola Secondary Schools Football Competition will have to obtain another five trophies for the most goals scored in the Under-16 Division.{{more}}

In an unprecedented occurrence, six players tied for the lone trophy that was at stake.

At last Friday’s Presentation Ceremony of the 2011 competition at the Victoria Park, no trophy was presented as Romario Wales and Mozique Herbert of the St. Martin’s Secondary, Kyle Edwards and Emroy Gloster of the Central Leeward Secondary, Davon Lavia of the Sandy Bay Secondary and Devon Latham of the Georgetown Secondary netted five goals each.

Edwards added to the drama when he netted his fifth goal in last Friday’s final and could have eased the headache of the organisers had he made good of a clear cut opportunity which presented itself.

Apart from the goal scoring ties, last Friday’s final saw for the first time the rendition of the school songs of the finalists.

Those institutions which had their school songs played or sung on the occasion were the St. Martin’s Secondary, the Central Leeward Secondary and the Bethel High School.

Earlier this year, when the 2010 finals were held, there were two firsts.

It was the first time the schools’ Football finals were aired live on television. Making that piece of schools’ Football history were the Central Leeward Secondary and the Dr. JP Eustace Memorial in the Under-21 final.

The other first was female Assistant Referee Mahalia Thomas, who officiated in the Under-16 finals, between eventual champions, the Central Leeward Secondary and the Bethel High School.(RT)
