Victors One takes RBTT/NLA Premier Division Cricket Title
Victors One took the 2011 RBTT/ National Lotteries Authority Premier Division of the national programme last Saturday, at the Arnos Vale One playing field, as their opponents, OLA Boutique Radcliffe failed to field the required seven players to start the match.{{more}}
When umpires Ivan âEddieâ Williams and Roger Davis asked both teams to declare their teams, Radcliffeâs captain Lindon James indicated seven players on the team sheet.
Williams told SEARCHLIGHT that in accordance with the conditions of the competition, once seven players are declared, it is the umpireâs right to see them physically.
Williams said in the process of doing so, when he called the third name on the team sheet, that player was absent; hence he recognized Radcliffe did not have the required number of players.
He also said that it was at 1:25 pm that he and Davis declared the match in Victors Oneâs favour.
The match was set to begin at 1pm.
Victors One gained full 16 points to go to 100 points and leapfrog Rivals on 92, and take the 2011 title.
It was the second match of the season that Radcliffe lost by default. The previous one was against Rivals, when at that time, Radcliffe was in second spot behind Rivals.
Radcliffe, who won the 2010 RBTT title and was joint champs in 2009 with the News Spartans, is headed by President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Julian Jack.
Additionally, two members of the current Executive of the SVGCA in Treasurer Rawle Caine and Assistant Secretary Thaddeus Seymour are part of the Radcliffe organisation.
But it was a bitter-sweet occasion for the Victors clan, as at the other end of the table, Victors Two has been relegated to the First Division.
ASCO is certain to be in the Premier Division in the 2012 edition, after amassing 112 points. Incidentally, ASCO won three of their matches by the default route.
In the 2009 first division final, ASCO lost to Police One, after failing to turn up on the second day. (RT)
