Morgan to get advanced coaching in Athletics
At the end of this month, durable Track and Field Coach Rawlson Morgan heads to the University of Delaware and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) Training Center in Colorado, United States of America, for six weeks of advanced coaching studies.{{more}}
Morgan, who is currently assigned to the St. Vincent Grammar School as the Physical Education teacher, is the third Vincentian to receive the scholarship, accessed under the International Coaching Enrichment Certificate Programme (ICECP).
Morgan is also the Games Secretary of Team Athletics SVG, the local governing body for Track and Field in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Before him, another Track and Field coach, Rosmund Griffith, took advantage of the ICECP in 2008.
Griffithâs focal area is the development of a Grassroots Programme to attract females to Track and Field Athletics in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
She has also been the manager/chaperone of several teams on overseas assignments, with her most recent being to the Youth Commonwealth Games in the Isle of Man, a week and a half ago.
In 2010, Technical Director of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis Association Khalique Bailey was the other local recipient of the ICECP scholarship.
Like Griffith and Bailey, Morgan will be required to develop a thesis within six months and implement a project here.
Apart from Morgan, National Olympic Committee Vice President Wayne Williams and Swimming Coach Neisha Alexander are pursuing education development.
Williams completed the first part of a four-leg Executive Masters in Sports Organisation Management programme, last weekend in Lausanne, Switzerland. The second and third parts are set for Trinidad and Tobago, Slovakia and Switzerland, between January and September, 2012.
Alexander is in Montreal, Canada, on a three-month Olympic Solidarity Scholarship.
Alexander will be involved in Sports Science training, which allows her to follow a basic training course in the field of science, applied to sports, as well as receive specific training.
On her return to the state in December, Alexander is expected to be assigned to the National Association of Aquatics, to assist in the development of the sport across St. Vincent and the Grenadines. (RT)
