Shoy, Nero shine in ASCO 20/20 Softball Tournament

The spotlight fell last weekend on Juliana Nero and Lawrence Shoy, as they both lit up the Dauphine Playing Field, as the Ashburton Sports and Cultural Organisation (ASCO) 20/20 Softball Cricket Competition gathered momentum.{{more}}

Nero, a West Indies female cricketer, slammed 93, which included 7 fours and 6 sixes, as United Survivors powered their way to 154 for 3 off 20 overs. Samantha Lynch scored 20 and Hazel Ann Foster made 16 in the carnage.

ASCO Dynamics replied with 55 in 14.1 overs. Jennetta Diamond snared 4 for 13; Latoya Providence bagged 2 for 5 and Anneisha Browne 2 for 15, as Survivors romped to a 99 run win.

For Shoy, it was his 6 sixes off consecutive balls that put him in the highlight reel. Helping Shoy to his record achievement was Denroy Pompey, who was the bowler. Shoy went on to score 43, as Glen United posted 145 for 4 from 15 overs, as rain affected the match.

Ronaldo Coombs contributed 37 in Glen United total. Nigel Patterson took 2 for 14, bowling for Karibbean Tires Street Vybes. Ricky King took 3 for 9 and Troy Harry, 3 for 12, and Wayne Garraway, 2 for 4, as Street Vybes was dismissed for 35.

Also in winner’s row was Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem which defeated S.G. Defrietas Beat D Heat.

Nar Fren Dem compiled 105 for 2 in 15 overs, as rain also had some say in the proceedings.

Rayan Antoine was the main contributor with 41, and Keyno Matthews added 34 not out. SG Defrietas Beat D Heat was strangled by the bowling of Ardon Prince who bagged 3 for 20, Kyron Cockborn, 2 for 4, and Ukiney Miller, 2 for 8, and crawled to 91 for 8 in 15 overs. Rohan Hull got 24 and Charlie Thomas, 23, as their team lost by 14 runs.

Meanwhile, LCK Hardware Shot Callers eeked out a five run triumph over Progressive Youths. Shot Callers scored 75 in 14.5 overs. Joel Patterson topscored with 19. Akeyso Davis, Jayvon Jack and Andrew Hackshaw all took two wickets each.

Progressive Youths replied with 70 for 8 in their 15 overs. Azond Forbes picked 4 for 15 and Everad Glasgow, 2 for 5, as their team celebrated a narrow victory.

Five matches are set for this weekend at the competition’s venue. (RT)
