Gurley hopes the new Astroturf surface will help to improve players skills

Director of the Harlequin Liverpool Buccament Bay Resort Football Academy, Roger Gurley, is hoping the new Astroturf surface at the Resort will help to improve the standard of Football played in primary schools here.{{more}}

Speaking to SEARCHLIGHT last Thursday, February 17, Gurley said it is about time that something is done about the standard of Football in this country, which, in his view, has fallen, especially in the primary schools.

Noting that the the Resort has the only Astroturf football field in the county, Gurley said the Academy is hosting a tournament for four schools. These are: The Buccament Government School, the Buccament BaySecondary and the Questelles and Clare Valley Government Schools.

Gurley said many of the students who practice on the Astroturf are becoming more comfortable with the idea of playing on artificial grass.

“With Liverpool and Harlequin’s involvement, we are hosting this tournament with the view of having a few players from the tournament join the Academy to harness their skills,” Gurley noted.

He added that the Academy will also be looking to take two of the players to Liverpool Football Club in the United Kingdom to get a feel of what they do there.
