Vintage takes Arnos Vale Football title again

Williams Agencies Vintage FC emerged champions of the Hairoun Beer Arnos Vale League last Sunday at the Arnos Vale Two Playing Field.{{more}}

Vintage, made up of players who have past their best, lacked the pace, but made up for it with experience and precise passing.

It was the more youthful 1998 Hill Side Rollers who took the ascendancy after Kenrick Gonsalves outran the Vintage FC defence to score as the ball ricocheted off the goal keeper and found the back of the net.

In similar fashion, Wong Matthews broke on the right side of the Hill Side Rollers defence and crossed to an on rushing Angus de Shong to equalize for Vintage, to send the match to be decided from the penalty spot.

It was an atonement for de Shong, who was guilty of missing a few easy chances to score.

The match was then decided on the dreaded penalty kicks.

Vintage netted four of theirs, and Hill Side was successful at a lone kick from the spot.

By virtue of reaching the finals of the competition, Vintage and Hillside Rollers have a shot at the play offs for the First Division of the National Lotteries Authority National Club Championships in 2011.

Vintage also won the last championship held back in 2008.

Hillside got to the finals when they beat Sion Hill 4-2 on penalties, after both teams had played to a 1-1 draw, while Vintage got past System 3, 4-2, also on penalties had a goal less full time score.

Sion Hill and System 3 were set to meet last Wednesday in the third place play off.
