Sion Hill Netball Competition bounces off

The Sion Hill Netball Committee last Sunday officially opened its 2010 C & R Enterprises Sion Hill Netball Competition at the Sion Hill Hard Court.{{more}}

A colourful parade of fourteen of the sixteen participating teams signaled what promises to be another two months of exciting Netball.

Such was the turn out of the teams that adjudicators found it difficult to declare a clear winner of the Best Dressed Team award. In the end, it was KP Marine New Era Pepper Stars, which got the nod over last year’s winner Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem. Third was Trendsetters Sports Club.

Among those who were on the hunt for the Best Banner Award were defending Division One League and Knock Out champions ASCO, the judges’ choice. Trendsetters Sports Club showed their allround emphasis on deportment and placed second. Third was Everready Future Stars.

All speakers highlighted the need for the competition to be run free of major disciplinary incidents.

As he has done in previous years, Area Representative, Arnhim Eustace pledged $300 and $200 for the Most Disciplined Team and the Most Disciplined Player, respectively.

Managing Director of C & R Enterprises Cleve Lewis, who renewed his commitment to the annual competition, said he was a bit disappointed that there were not many units in the competition which were emerging from the Sion Hill community.

Also giving brief remarks were Minister of State in the Ministry Of National Mobilisation, Youth, Sports etc Ces Mc Kie and Secretary of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association Gailene Gordon.

In the feature match that followed, RP Ballers, replete with national players, beat Gairy Construction ASCO 44-37, to take the Sylvia Knights-Clarke trophy, the symbol of supremacy in the opening match each year.

Six teams are competing in Division One and ten are contesting Division One.

Nice Radio Pine Hill Clinchers won both the league and Knock Out titles in Division Two last year. (RT)
