Vincy Heat blazes St. Lucia

This country’s senior national male Football team, Vincy Heat will be looking to continue their winning ways this weekend here against Grenada, as part of their continued preparations for the Digicel Caribbean Cup, 2010.{{more}}

The Vincentians last weekend, blasted the St. Lucians in two friendlies at the Vieux Fort Stadium.

The Vincentians, on the back of a double strike from Myron Samuel, and a goal a piece from Romano Snagg, Wendell Cuffy and Norrel George, saw off their St. Lucian rivals, 5-1 on Friday.

But it was a disappointing showing by their hosts, who in Sunday’s match fielded a club team against the Vincentians which the visitors won 11-2.

The Vincentians’ goals were scored by Snagg, who hit a hat trick. Samuel and Chad Balcombe got a brace each, with a goal apiece from Chester Morgan, Ronsil Badnock, George and Cuffy.

Reports are that the St. Lucian national team officials headed by Kittian Ces Podd, a former Technical Director employed by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation, complained of sustaining several injuries in the opening match on Friday and could not field a formidable team, hence the accommodation of the club team.

This weekend will see two engagements at the Victoria Park. On Friday, Vincy Heat meets Grenada from 7:30 pm, with the second match also set for the same venue, on Sunday, starting at 7pm.

These matches form double headers on both nights.

Friday’s international friendly will be preceded by a President’s XI against the national Under-20 team.

The matches will sandwich the official Opening Ceremony of the National Lotteries Authority National Club Championships.

Prior to Sunday’s match, Cane End and Parkside Rollers go head to head in a First Division match of the club championships. (RT)
