SEDI to host sports consultation

Southeast Development, Inc. (SEDI) is hosting a Sports Consultation on Monday, August 9, starting at 7 p.m., at the Stubbs Primary School.{{more}}

The programme will be facilitated by members of the SEDI sports and cultural committee under the theme “Rekindling Community Spirit through Sports”.

According to organizers, the purpose of the consultation is to revitalize sporting activities throughout the communities of Stubbs, Victoria Village, Enhams, Carapan, Brighton, Argyle, Calder, Bonhomme and Diamond areas.

Specific objectives of the consultation are to work collaboratively with community organizations, local businesses and national sporting bodies to stimulate the interest of young people in sports; to collectively establish a sports calendar for the community, and to create sub-committees for the various sporting disciplines.

Representatives of civic, church, school and other community organizations as well as representatives of local businesses and national sports bodies are encouraged to attend the consultation.

“SEDI recognizes that the involvement of our youth in community-based sports has waned over the past decade,” said SEDI president Albert Harry. “And our sense of community spirit seems to have declined along with the diminished interest in sporting activities.

“We believe that a strong youth sports program will rekindle our sense and spirit of community,” Harry continued. “By working together with our community, business and national partners on a coordinated sports development initiative, we hope to engage more of our young people in sports and, at the same time, rekindle the spirit of community.”
