2010 Summer National Junior Tennis Championships Conclude

The 2010 Summer National Junior Tennis Championships sponsored by Caribbean Alliance Insurance{{more}} Company Ltd. / Haydock Insurances Ltd concluded on Saturday, July 24, crowning new junior Tennis champions and readying Junior Tennis players for international competition in SVG in August.

“The tournament has been a tremendous success as the nation’s junior players produced great Tennis,” stated Tournament Director Andy Bentick. The tournament had over 65 registered junior Tennis players. This continues the tradition of the SVGTA facilitating the largest national junior tournaments of any individual participation sport in St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

In the Boys Under 18 Finals, Rafai Bentick defeated Jrai Joyette in the marquee matchup. The Girls Under-18 winner was Michelle Gun-Munro, with runner-up Olivia Haslam. Rafai Bentick defeated Jymourn Deroche for the Boys Under-16 title, while Olivia Haslam is the Girls Under 16 winner, with runner-up Rhiana Bruce-Lyle.

In the Boys Under 14 singles, Jymourn Deroche defeated Imani King. In doubles, Jymourn Deroche and Imani King defeated Akeem Guy and Sebastian Cyrus. The Girls Under-14 winner is Chelsea Haslam, with runner-up Roberta Haslam. In doubles, Chelsea and Roberta Haslam defeated Denee and Luka Lyttle.

The Boys Under-12 Champion is Sebastian Cyrus, with runner-up Alex Cyrus. The Girls Under 12 champion is Chelsea Haslam, with runner-up Denee Lyttle. The Boys Under 10 Champion is Luke Browne with runner-up Keshawn Butcher. The Girls Under 10 champion is Amarlia Benn, with runner-up Gabrielle Benn.

The 2010 Summer National Junior Tennis Tournament concluded with a trophy ceremony attended by parents, coaches and friends at the National Tennis Centre in Villa. The Challenge Trophy, presented to the best player of the tournament, was awarded to Chelsea Haslam. Most improved Under 18 was awarded to Jymourn Deroche, Most improved U14 was awarded to Alex Harry, and Most Improved Under 12 was awarded to Luke Browne.
