Street Fighters take CADO Softball Cricket title
First timers in the Dr. Linton Lewis Calliaqua Area Development Organisation (CADO) Softball Cricket Competition, Street Fighters, made sure that their debut was significant.{{more}}
Last Saturday afternoon at the Calliaqua Playing Field, Street Fighters engraved their name on the Challenge Trophy, a replica, 20 gold medals and a cash prize of $1,500.
They comfortably beat RSVG Police by seven wickets in the final.
The potent RSVG Policeâs batting never clicked and fell for 70. Renford Jack was the topscorer with 15.
Eldon Morris snapped up 4 for 15, bowling for Street Fighters. Morris captured the Most Wickets Award for his 26 scalps.
Osni Billingy then made 16 not out, and Ricardo Thomas with 13 saw Street Fighters to 71 for 3, with more than five overs to spare. Billingy was named Player of the Final, and was voted the Best All-rounder for his 15 wickets and 115 runs.
Police collected a trophy, silver medals and $1,000, while Crushers, who did not have to sweat in the intended third place play off, as Unit One did not show up, easily pocketed $500.
RSVG Policeâs Salvan Browne scored the most runs, 165, and was the only centurion.
The organizers also awarded Sharon Richards for being the Most Supportive Spectator.
Additionally, one member of each of the 20 teams which participated received his teamâs Most Valuable Player award.
Sponsor, Dr. Linton Lewis, expressed his overall satisfaction with this yearâs competition and promised greater support in next yearâs edition. (RT)
