Junior Tennis tourney climaxes

The 2010 National Easter Junior Tennis Tournament presented by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tennis Association (SVGTA) concludes Today, Friday, April 9, crowning several new junior Tennis champions.{{more}}

“The tournament has been a tremendous success as the nation’s junior players produced great Tennis,” stated Tournament Director Andy Bentick. The tournament had over ninety registered junior Tennis players. This continues the tradition of the SVGTA facilitating the largest national junior tournaments of any individual participation sport in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

In the Boys Under 18’s, Jrai Joyette will play the winner of Rafai Bentick versus Jonathan Perry in the marquee matchup. In the doubles competition, Daryl MacLeish and Kevin Huggins will play the winners of Rafai Bentick and Bradni Black versus Jonathan Perry and Myles Dalrymple. The Girls Under 18 winner was Daneya Charles, with runner-up Michelle Gun-Munro. The doubles winners were Daneya Charles and Halima Michael who defeated Rhiana Bruce-Lyle and Michelle Gun-Munro.

Rafai Bentick will play Jonathan Perry for the Boys Under 16 title, while Daneya Charles is the Girls Under 16 winner with runner-up Halima Michael.

In the Boys Under 14 singles, Jymourn Deroche defeated Imani King. The Girls Under 14 winner will be contested between Chelsea Haslam and Denee Lyttle.

The Boys Under 12 Champion is Sebastian Cyrus, with runner-up Jon A. Thomas. The Girls Under 12 champion is Chelsea Haslam, with runner-up Denee Lyttle. The Boys Under 10 Champion is Khamisi Bascombe, with runner-up Keshawn Butcher. The Girls Under 10 champion is Gabrielle Benn, with runner-up Beyonce Winter.

The Boys and Girls Under 10 competitions were managed by ITF Coach and Tutor John Goede, from Surinam. These categories represented a significant increase in player participation when compared to previous national tournaments and is a positive sign for the future of Tennis in SVG.

The 2010 National Easter Junior Tennis Tournament will conclude with a trophy ceremony on Friday, April 9th, at 6:30PM, at the National Tennis Centre in Villa.
