Caesar – Wellness is the focus of Masters tournment

President of the SVG Over 35 Masters Football Committee, Glenroy “Sulle” Caesar, has revealed that this year’s National Lotteries Authority Masters competition will focus on promoting wellness.{{more}}

Caesar made that point in an interview with SEARCHLIGHT last Sunday afternoon, as the competition began in earnest at the Victoria Park.

President Caesar said that he has observed at the general hospital there are several persons who because of lack of exercise and poor eating habits have come down with “Sugar” (Diabetes).

Caesar said that it is also his organisation’s contribution to promoting the “Wellness Revolution”.

“We want those who are participating to do so without injuries and get fit,” Caesar said.

Additionally, the Masters Organisation’s point man said that the competition is a vent for those who have advanced in age to express themselves on the Football field, and show the youngsters the way the game was played in yesteryear.

Caesar opined that the standard of Football in St. Vincent and the Grenadines has dropped over the years and wants the older heads to demonstrate a keen love for the sport and help to recapture the lost glory.

Fourteen teams in two equal groups of seven are on a mission to achieve Caesar and his Executive’s objectives.

In Group A are the 2009 champions, African Tref; Temple Masters, Arabesque Port Masters, Browne’s Hardware SESCO, Breakaway Masters, Calliaqua United and South Leeward.

Heading Group B is last year’s runner up, Computec/ Comsports Vincy Masters; G and T Sion Hill, Bequia, Avenues United, Vintage Gold, Digicel Je Belle and Layou.

In Sunday’s opening triple-header, Je Belle beat Sion Hill 3-0. Vincy Masters edged out Layou 2-1.

And in the clash of the night, Breakaway Masters crushed African Tref 6-1.

According to Caesar, his organisation is working to an early May date, as the time set to complete the competition, barring any unforeseen delays (RT)
