Business Houses TT Tournament in full swing

The Scotia Bank Business Houses Table Tennis Tournament is in full swing.

The tournament got off last Monday night at the Old Kingstown Anglican School Annex.{{more}}

A brief opening ceremony addressed by Sean Stanley, the main organiser, Norman Cumberbatch of the sponsors, Scotia Bank, and Julian Small who represented the Department of Physical Education and Sports, served up the formalities.

Stanley, of the Sean Stanley Table Tennis Academy, stated that when he conceptualized the operations of the academy some two years ago, he was basically catering for youths, but has embraced all ages, as he sees the sport for a wide cross section of persons.

Cumberbatch revealed that the Bank of Nova Scotia did not hesitate to come to the financial aid of the tournament.

With the bank having a team in the tournament, Cumberbatch jokingly said that they would be gracious to allow others to win.

Small, in his capacity, encouraged participation but warned those advanced in age that they are more susceptible to injuries.

In competitive action for the first two nights, Computec/Irie Travel defeated Stangro Mini Mart 3-0, with wins by Kenneth Bibby over Roger Reddock, Michael John over Anton Lewis, and Elvis Dublin beat Leroy Lewis.

Exclusive Sounds got past S.G De Freitas and Company Limited, 3-1.

Davon Cato whipped Rohan Hull and Korbet Crick had the better of Charlie Thomas.

Onike Spann won from Monty Hillocks by default and Crick beat Hull.

On day two of action, last Tuesday night, Exclusive Sounds went two from two when they defeated Media House 3-2.

Exclusive wins were attained by Davon Cato over Tyrone Jack, Korbet Crick over Jeff Trotman, and Crick also dispatched Jack. For Media House, Orlando Basulto beat Phil Moses and Trotman got the better of Cato.

Sagicor Insurance Services also defeated Scotia Bank, 3-2, through Benjamin Samuel over Norman Cumberbatch, and Mark Charles beat Kwame Mascoll and Cumberbatch.

Ashroy Ford beat Kevin Rodriguez and Mascoll whipped Samuel to give Scotia Bank their two wins.

Also on Tuesday night, Computec/Irie Travel defeated Carl’s Engineering Services 3-1.

Kenneth Bibby beat Mark Bobb, and Conrad Charles and Michael John got past Michael Wilson.

Conrad Charles beat Elvis Dublin for Carl’s Engineering lone triumph.

Apart from the team competition, there will be the doubles and singles competition.

Twelve business houses are participating.

Thursday, March 25, is the date set aside for the conclusion of the tournament. (RT)
