Homecoming Table Tennis Tourney ends
Truman Quashie is the winner in the senior division of the Homecoming Table Tennis Competition.
Making a comeback after several years out of the national Table Tennis arena, Quashie defeated Joseph Carrington 4-11, 11-4 ,9-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8 in a marathon final of the senior division of the competition, which was played last Saturday afternoon at the Kingstown Anglican School Annexe.{{more}}
Quashie took away the winnerâs purse of $500, with Carrington making good of $300.
In getting to the final, Quashie had a four sets to two win over any long standing campaigner Elliot Charles, while Carrington got past the youthful and promising Kavir Gaymes, three sets to one.
In the Under 11 finals, Kadeem de Shong won from Jumar Pope 11-7, 11-8, 15-13.
de Shong had earlier won by default from Teshenna Franklyn, while Pope recorded a straight sets win at the expense of Rayal Isaacs.
Aron Lewis captured the Under-13 division when he defeated Justin Robinson 11-4, 11-7, 10-12, 11-8. Lewis, en route to the final, disposed of de Shong. Robinson, on the other hand, whipped Rolando Maxwell to set up the meeting with Lewis.
Maxwell then got the sweet taste of victory when he defeated Robinson 11-6, 11-4, 8-11, 11-9, to take the Under 15 title.
de Shong, Lewis and Maxwell pocketed $200 each for winning their respective age categories. The second places earned $100.
The left handed Kamal Hunte beat Dominic Evans 11-6, 15-13, 11-7, 11-5, to secure the Under-21 winnerâs cash prize of $200.
Prizes were donated by the Vincy Homecoming Committee as part of the Homecoming celebrations.
The competition was administrated by the Stanleyâs Table Tennis Academy. (RT)
