Edwards leaves his mark

Zane Edwards left his footprints in the last set of preliminary round matches in the Hairoun Beer Bequia 20/20 Cricket Competition which were played last weekend at the Clive Tannis Playing Field in Bequia.{{more}}

Edwards cracked the fifth century in this year’s competition, 121. Edwards, a member of the Neil Williams Cricket Academy, was pugnacious, as he hit 11 sixes and 8 fours, to channel West Side Knockers to 245 for 5.Cosmus Hackshaw, another of the competition’s centurions, made 66. Jeremy Francois took 2 for 37.

Village Apartments Port Elizabeth in reply reached 159. Veteran player Bradley Brooker hit 46, Kendall Douglas struck 42. Leon Mc Allister 4 for 28, and Andy Yorke 2 for 22.

Port Elizabeth then turned the tables on Heineken by 162 runs. Harvey Pope scored 51, Calvin Hazell 48, Brooker 41, and Jonas King 31.

Heineken was shot out for 96. Jeremy Francois 4 for 4 and Pope 2 for 3, did the damage for Port Elizabeth.

And, in the clash of the top teams, Aussies posted 182, led by St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Windwards opening batsman Salvan Browne’s 66. Omarl Lavia, the former national Under-15 player took 3 for 29 and former national Under-19 player, Jenry Ollivierre 2 for 21. Youth Combined responded with 178, only to fall short by 4 runs. Lavia made 36, Ollivierre 34 and Neil Baptiste, a former SVG opening batsman scored 26. Razine Browne 3 for 27 and Shem Browne 2 for 49.

In other scheduled matches, Paget Farm Pacers won from Manicou by default and West Side Knockers also did so over Firefly Church Boys. The semi finals take place this weekend. On Saturday, Aussies comes up against West Side Knockers and on Sunday, D’ Graduates faces Youth Combined.(RT)
