Browne, Charles in the limelight

Atticus Browne and Ray Charles shared the limelight with the St. Vincent Grammar School at the Presentation Ceremony of the 2009 United Insurance Schools’ Cricket Competition, held last Wednesday afternoon at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.{{more}}

Browne, of the Emmanuel High School Mesopotamia, walked away with the Most Runs, Highest Individual Score and Best All Rounder trophies.

Browne scored an aggregate of 307 runs. He recorded the highest individual score, 185, made against the Bishop’s College. In the process, he wrote a chapter in the local Cricket history at the school’s level.

To add to his trophy cabinet, Browne, a left hander, was the Best All Rounder, adding 22 wickets to his tally of runs.

Browne, a product of the Neil Williams Academy, has so far represented St. Vincent and the Grenadines at the Under-15, and Under-19 levels, and has gone on to play for the Windward Islands Under-15, and in the inaugural Under-17 regional Tournament in Trinidad and Tobago last December.

Browne was named in the reserve list to this country’s senior team to the Windwards Competition held in Dominica in September last year.

Charles, who represents the Campden Park Secondary, and who also gets his cricketing tutelage from the Neil Williams Academy, was the competition’s highest wicket taker.

Charles bowled 40 overs, with nine maidens, had 93 runs hit off his bowling, but most of all, snared 22 wickets. The budding fast bowler did so at an average of 4.22 runs per wicket.

He returned the best bowling figures, 7 for 8, off just six overs, three of which were maidens.

Twenty schools participated in the competition which was not held in 2008. (RT)
