SVG senior cricketers seeking redemption

Today’s day / night match, the first in Windward Islands Cricket history, will see St. Vincent and the Grenadines facing Dominica in the Final of the Limited overs competition at the newly built Windsor Park Stadium in Roseau, Dominica.{{more}}

After having to settle for third spot in the League, the Vincentians, who placed last in the 2007 limited overs version, will be looking to make a complete turn around.

On Monday, St. Vincent and the Grenadines took revenge from Grenada, albeit the shorter version. SVG made 149. Alston Bobb, 36, Kenroy Martin, 29. Camilus Alexander, 3 for 29, Denis George, 3 for 33, Nellon Pascal, 2 for 20. Grenada, in reply, was bowled out for 134 in 46.4 overs. Devon Smith made 42, Rawl Lewis, 31. Orlanzo Jackson had 5 for 15, and Keiron Cottoy, 3 for 16.

In the other match, defending champion Dominica beat St. Lucia. Dominica scored 166 in 47.3 overs. Kevin James hit 70, and Mervin Matthew, 30. Darren Sammy bagged, 3 for 27, and Gary Mathurin, 3 for 34. St. Lucia was dismissed for 91 off 36.1 overs.

Kelly Lesporis topscored with 25, as Ray Casimir had 4 for 22, Vincent Casimir, 3 for 16, and Shane Shillingford, 2 for 4.

Playing against the host and defending champion Dominica last Tuesday, the home team batted first and totalled 140. Ray Casimir topscored with 28 not out. Kenroy Peters, 3 for 27, Cottoy, 2 for 18. St. Vincent and the Grenadines reached 141 for the loss of six wickets.

Miles Bascombe, 31, Donwell Hector, 30, Salvan Browne, 27. Vincent Casimir, 3 for 32.

In the other match, St. Lucia made 71. Camilus Alexander, 3 for 13, Denis George, 2 for 11. Grenada held on to make 72 for 9. Alex Antoine, 4 for 20.

SVG lost their last match against St. Lucia on Wednesday. Deighton Butler, 27, and Hector, 23, as SVG reached 121. Antoine, 3 for 13, Mathurin, 2 for 19, and Wendell Roberts, 3 for 31.St. Lucia responded with 122 for 4. Johnson Charles, 51 not out.

Grenada, 117. Lewis, 47. Matthew, 4 for 13. Set a revised target, Dominica reached 89 for 6. Pascal, 4 for 41. (RT)
