EC United (combination of Evesham and Carriere) from the Marriaqua Valley and Young Stars from Barrouallie are the recipients of sponsorships from Digicel that will enable them to purchase soccer uniforms and pay registration fees for participation in The National Lotteries Authority Marriaqua League (EC United) and the Barrouallie Football League (Young Stars).
Collecting the sponsorship money last Tuesday, July 29, from Marketing Manager at Digicel Juno DeRoche, Team Manager of EC United Taju Rogers said that Digicelâs contribution has brought together two teams and made them one. He explained that both teams were having problems fielding a squad as many of the players from both sides were either playing elsewhere or had gone overseas.
âOur main aim is to form a club and Digicel has helped us take the first step towards that dream; both teams used to have problems with registration fee, so we are thankful not just for that but for the uniforms also,â said Rogers who is also a player on the team.
Public Relations Officer of EC United Kenville Glasgow said that Digicelâs sponsorship âis not only towards the team but it has also impacted on two communities, uniting them; this is a vital contribution to the community, not just the team.â He explained that there has always been rival between the two teams in the past: âSoccer is something that can help keep the youths out of trouble because it keeps them occupied and away from violence, and Digicel has helped in this aspect by coming to our rescue.â
Meanwhile, Captain of Young Stars Jason Fredericks thanked the telecommunications company for helping them get uniforms and for paying the registration fee. He revealed that this will be Young Starsâ first time in the competition and said: âWe thank Digicel for helping usâ.
Marketing Manager Juno De Roche commented: âDigicelâs aim is to help build the youths of our society and to bridge the gap of youths and adults in the society, and sport is one avenue in which we can accomplish such. I will like on behalf of the Management and staff of Digicel to wish the teams a successful and accident free tournament.â
