Keartons United Sports Club gets soccer balls

In a continued effort to show their social commitment, telecommunications provider Digicel has donated 20 soccer balls to the Keartons United Sports Club of Barrouallie.

Vice President of the club for the last two years Lorson Lewis collected the balls at Digicel’s Corporate Office last Friday. “These balls will greatly help us as we are currently in training for the Barrouallie football tournament which begins on July 20. {{more}} We are also going to compete in the National competition in November, so I want to give a heartfelt thank you to Digicel because we were lacking balls to practice with,” said Lewis who has been a member of the club for over ten years.

The defender (Lewis) who also plays with the team explained that apart from sports, his club also does clean up campaigns and arranges classes for primary school students. Apart from a senior team, the club also has first division and under 17 soccer teams. Handing over the soccer balls, Marketing Executive Edmund Joachim said, “Digicel is always trying to fulfill their social responsibility and always trying to give back to the community in anyway we can so that is why we saw it fit to donate these balls”.

The Keartons United Sports Club is also involved in cricket and netball and is hoping to open a club house that will house among other things an Internet Café where they can give computer training to members of the community.
