Technical Director of Team Athletics St Vincent and the Grenadines (TASVG), Gideon Labban, has been elevated to the status of Level Two Course Director of the New International Association of Athletic Federations, Coaches Education and Certification System (IAAF, CECS.{{more}}

Labban was among twenty participants from the Caribbean who attended the IAAF lecturers’ course at the University of Puerto Rico from April 13-20.

The facilitators/assessors included Peter Thompson, Director of the IAAF, Coaches Education & Certification System worldwide; Oscar Gadea of Uruguay and Lenford Levy, Director of the IAAF Regional development center San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Labban was among four coaches who received a Grade 4, the highest grade possible. The others achieving similar grades, included two from Trinidad and Tobago, and one from Jamaica.

Labban told SEARCHLIGHT last week, “It was one of the hardest courses I ever attended”.

He made reference to the assessment.

“These guys look for everything, even when you are observing. They look at your body language, everything”, Labban added.

But while Labban is enjoying some elevation, some of the participants were not so lucky, as some were demoted.

Participants were assessed in two lecture presentations, two practical presentations and a written exam during the eight day period.

Coaches were graded on a 1- 4 grading system as follows: Grade 1 – Not yet competent, Grade 2 – Course Lecturer (Locally only), Grade 3 – Course Lecture -anywhere and Grade 4-Course Director.

Since his appointment as an IAAF lecturer in 2000, Labban has lectured in Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia, Dominica, and Turks & Caicos, and here at home. He is also a Level five Academy Chief Coach in the IAAF new five level system.(RT)
