Vincy Heat loses to Jabloteh

Vincy Heat went under to CLICO Jabloteh, 4-2, last Wednesday morning at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago, in the first of a three match tour of the twin island republic.{{more}}

Jabloteh opened the scoring via a Trent Noel goal in the 18th minute, and Peter Byers doubled the semi professional club’s tally in the 22nd.

The Vincentians cut the lead by half in the 30th minute, through a strike from Sean Glynn. Noel completed his brace in the 38th minute and Willis Plaza extended the cushion in the 44th minute, to leave Jabloteh 4-1 at the half.

Randolph “Sticky” Williams got Vincy Heat’s second goal in the 88th minute.

Speaking to SEARCHLIGHT last Wednesday afternoon from Halyconia Inn, where the team is housed, Manager Roxell John said that the Vincentians played well despite unaccustomed to play full stretch in mid morning. The match began at 9:30.

The Vincentians face Bmobile Joe Public next Tuesday and complete their eleven day tour next Wednesday against W Connection, another of the top semi professional clubs there.

According to manager Roxell John, the Vincentians played well despite unaccustomed to play full stretch in mid morning.

Technical Director Stewart John Hall, in a brief telephone interview with SEARCHLIGHT prior to the team’s departure last Tuesday morning, said he was hoping for his players to fine tune their skills and “ up their fitness”, as the date with Canada draws nearer.

Hall alluded to the inclusion of Under-20 midfield player Jolanshoy Mc Dowald, as a move to expose as many youngsters as he sees it fit.

“I am impressed with the lad”, the British born Hall stated.

However, Hall with mainly locally based on the trip, hinted at recalling veteran midfielder, Kendall Velox.

“I will like to see Velox, (I) hear he is still playing well”, Hall said in his deep Birmingham accent.

His comments came against the knowledge that Velox has already announced his retirement from national representation.

Velox, 36, made his decision after 17 years of representing St. Vincent and Grenadines at the senior level. He did so following the Digicel Finals in Trinidad and Tobago last year January.

Velox currently plays for W connection. A veteran of the Trinidad and Tobago pro league, Velox moved from North Stars after four seasons with the club.

The team that left here also included Goal Keepers Melvin Andrews and Winslow Mc Dowald. Utility players are Oscar Nero and Richard Hayde. Randolph Williams, Roy Williams, Darren Francis, Damal Francis and Emerald George are the midfielders. Amon Bascombe, Romano Snagg and the durable Alwyn Guy are the strikers. Defenders Troy Jeffers and Roy Williams are the other locally based players.

Defenders Jason Hope and Chester Morgan were expected to link up with the team, so too was holding midfielder Theon Gordon, who was supposed to journey to Trinidad and Tobago from Venezuela. Striker Glynn and utility player Marrian Grant, both playing semi professionally in Jamaica, complete the touring party.

Coach Roger Gurley and Kit Manager Kevin Richardson are also part of the Vincy Heat’s management team. (RT)
