Warner powers up the academy

Devane Warner scored a century to power Digicel Neil Williams Academy to an innings and 37 runs win over PKF Saints, as the Bottlers First Division Cricket Competition continued last weekend.{{more}}

Playing at the newly laid strip at the Arnos Vale II Playing Field, Warner, the son of former St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Windwards middle order batsman Monty Warner, lashed 8 fours and an equal number of sixes, to score 127. Lansford Weekes made 35 not out and Andy Baptiste, 34, not out, as the Academy reached 279 for 8 declared.

Dudley David, 3 for 54, and Brenslee Bobb, 3 for 53, shared the bulk of the wickets that fell.

The Academy had earlier stripped PKF Saints’ batting for 70. Ray Charles bagged 5 for 25.

Batting a second time, PKF Saints rallied to 172. Diego Laprimavera stroked 46, and Bobb, 39, not out, as Weekes, 3 for 27, and Warner, 2 for 14, ensured that the Academy gained maximum points in their debut match.

It was all Otis Tittle at the North Union Playing Field, as he had the incredible figures of 8 for 2, as Radcliffe Two was dismissed for a paltry 15 runs. Victors Two, responding, reached 147. Kurton Lavia, 41, and Javed Harry, 26. Michael St. Hillaire took 2 for 4 and Verbert King, 2 for 16.

With a deficit of 132, Radcliffe folded for 80, losing by an innings and 43 runs. Tittle was again among the wickets, with 3 for 16, to finish with match analysis of 11 for 18. Jeffery Abraham took 4 for 32, and Harry, 3 for 19.

The other First Division fixture saw Belmont United gaining first innings points over Smashers at the Brighton Playing Field.

Belmont posted 288. Maxton Hackshaw, 59, Jerome Samuel, 46, Adolphus Mofford and Jamal Bradshaw both made 33. Darren Russell took 3 for 79, Marvin Harry, 2 for 10, and Conrad Adams, 2 for 30.

Smashers fell short by 64 runs as they were dismissed for 225. Keswerth Lewis knocked 53, Harry, 35, Rawdon Bentick, 34, and Justin Lee, 32, being the principal scorers, as Samuel helped himself to 4 for 29.

At the close, Belmont was 166 for 8, with Curtis King making 56. Hassan Edwards took 4 for 12 for Smashers.

And in the lone RBTT Premier Division match at the Stubbs Playing Field, Eat Rite Saints secured first innings points at the expense of the News Spartans.

Eat Rite Saints was dismissed for 106, with veteran batsman Ted Roberts making 41. Micah Joseph had 3 for 13, bowling for Spartans.

Leon Mc Allister, 4 for 34, and Roger Gibson, 3 for 23, ensured that Spartans fell below their total. Spartans made 67.

Saints declared their second innings at 109 for 8, with Roberts again topscoring with 28. Joseph was once more the destroyer, with 5 for 26. Spartans reached 109 for 5 in pursuit of 149 for an outright win. Jerome Dick was the topscorer with 36 and Krishna Da Silva was 26 not out when the match ended. (RT)
