Jackson in action

The national cricket competition started almost unnoticed last weekend, but Orlanzo Jackson, the man who has won the “Most Wickets” award in the Premier Division, for nine consecutive years, has signalled his desire not to relinquish that accolade.{{more}}

Jackson bowled defending champion MVC Rivals to an innings defeat of Irie Travel Packers, at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

He finished with a match analysis of 8 for 64. Rivals batted once and amassed 265. Teran Harper and Jackson shared the topscore of 65. Roland Wilkinson hit 54.

Jamal Jeffrey, 3 for 69, and Eversley Jeffrey, 2 for 30, were the top bowlers for Packers.

Jamal Nash, 3 for 2, Jackson, 2 for 24, and Colin Shoy, 2 for 9, conjured up to dismiss Packers for 93 in their first innings.

Batting a second time, Packers made 126, losing by an innings and 46 runs. Jamal Jeffery made 34 , as Jackson snared 6 for 40, and Wilkinson, 4 for 40, to give the defending champion a winning start to the 2008 season.

The other match that got this year’s edition going was in the Bottlers First Division.

The 2007 champion, Log Enterprises Masters , who did not seek promotion to the Premier Division, eeked out a five run win over debutante CLICO A’Level College, at the Grammar School Playing Field.

Bradley Brooker topscored with 42, Samuel Williams hit 32, as Log Masters made 159. Rosario Walters, 3 for 24, and Lorenzo Edwards were A’Level College’s best bowlers.

In response, A’ Level fell short by three runs, making 156. Maxwell Edwards who struck 44, and Kevin Small with 33, were the principal scorers. Montgomery Sealy, 3 for 28, Elvis Browne, 2 for 44, and Lynton Greaves, all former St. Vincent and the Grenadines players, rewound the hands of time with their bowling.

Batting a second time, Log Masters totalled 147, with Brooker again topscoring with 41, and Browne, 31. Andell Prince, 2 for 13, Roxell John, 2 for 18, Kevin Small, 2 for 41, and Walters, 2 for 26, reaped the bowling rewards for A’Level College, who were asked to make 151 to win, but stalled at 145.

Kenroy Lewis who made 59 and Reuden Blake, 34, were the top contributors with the in bat in A’Level’s unsuccessful run chase.

Sealey, 3 for 25, and Browne, 2 for 5, saw Log Masters home, but not without a scare.(RT)
