Thomas is Sports Journalist of 2007

As the Bible puts it, “Your work shall be rewarded”. There wasn’t any myth to this scripture passage on Saturday, February 23, at the National Sports Awards when Rohan Thomas’ persistence and hard work earned him the title of Sports Journalist of 2007.{{more}}

Describing himself as a hardworking individual, Thomas, a teacher at the C.W Prescod Primary School, told SEARCHLIGHT that Sports have always been at the centre of his interest. “I think I was just rewarded for my persistence over the past 10 years.” Thomas added.

A man who strives for perfection, Thomas disclosed that he keeps his writing up to par by doing vast amounts of reading so that he can come up with more exciting material.

Thomas, who started out writing with Cross Country Weekly in 1998, said he sought to develop his writing skills from that point. He thanked SEARCHLIGHT for allowing him the opportunity over the past six years to express his views on sports issues in this country.

“Over the past year, I have been striving to be better and always looking to develop, especially since I am teaching Grade 6,” stated Thomas.

The easygoing resident of Sion Hill admitted that last year was his best year, and he hopes to improve in the years to come. A stalwart in his home community, he said that he will continue to serve as sports administrator.

In 2004, Thomas won best news story category and repeated the feat the following year.
