Simple Boys answer to Shot Callers

Defending champions of the Male Division of the ASCO Softball Cricket Competition Shot Callers would have to pull out all the stops as of now, if they are to retain their title.{{more}}

Last weekend, Shot Callers could not cope with the complexity of Simple Boys’ bowling to reach only 93 for 9, in their allotment of 20 overs. But this total was aided by 44 extras, conceded by Simple Boys. Veron Forbes, 2 for 25, and Vernardo Primus, 2 for 11, were the main wicket takers.

In response, the combination of Veron Bute, 25, and Lex Bute, 20, pushed Simple Boys over the line at 94 for 3.

In the other fixture in that division, ASCO One defeated Unda Dogs by 62 runs. ASCO reached 162 for 5 in their 20 overs, led by Roderick John’s 45, Osborne Franklyn, 27 not out, and T’Shaka Patterson, 21. Felix Greaves took 2 for 11 and Raymond Sayers 2 for 29, bowling for Unda Dogs.

Franklyn then bagged 2 for 16, and with Rajiv Roberts, 3 for 21, restricted Unda Dogs to 100 for 9 in the maximum 20 overs.

Also on the weekend, the female officers representing RSVG Police put the shackles on Good News, beating them by 35 runs.

Charlene Bute top scored with 25, as the law officers posted 95 all out in 13.4 overs. Claudine Franklyn, 2 for 16, was Good News’ best bowler, but her efforts were insufficient, as her team failed to erase the total.

Good News, in 12.3 overs, was dismissed for 60. Lavern Baptiste made 14, as Rochelle Smith, 3 for 19, Bute, 3 for 20, and Esther Nanton, 2 for 12, ensured victory for RSVG Police.

But the biggest margin on the weekend was achieved by Ju-c Floranium Super Strikers over Clinchers.

Super Strikers on the back of 80 not out by Francelia Mascoll and Heather Wyllie, 37, made 178 for 2 in their 20 overs. Both of them brought their bowling skills to the fore to rout out Clinchers for 16 in 6.2 overs.

Wyllie had the amazing figures of 5 for 4, and Mascoll, 2 for 12, to put Super Strikers in charge in the Female Division.

Another five matches are set for the Dauphine Playing Field this weekend.

On Saturday, from 1 pm, defending female champion United Survivors plays RSVG Police, to be followed by the match up in the Male Division between ASCO One and Kayous.

Sunday’s action begins at 9:30 am, with ASCO Two and Shot Callers as the Male Division continues.

Two Female Division matches complete the day’s proceedings. Clinchers and Zees & Sons ASCO meet from 1:00 pm, with Fully Loaded and C O Williams Cow Girls from 3:15.(RT)
