Gibson and Bristol top in swim meet
Alexi Gibson and Brandon Bristol were the toast of the Rickyâs Swim School when the eight old swim club held its first ever Awards and Presentation Ceremony, December 16, at the Breezeville Poolside and Apartments.{{more}}
Gibson was declared Most Promising Swimmer, and Bristol, Swimmer of the Year. Bristol, ten, received his recognition for his good sportsmanship and consistency throughout 2007.
Bristol, the day before, captured the 9-12 male category at a swim meet held at Indian Bay, the final competitive events on the clubâs calendar.
Gibson placed first in the 13-17 male category and was second in the race for the overall male champion. The other divisional winners were Nadifa Joseph, who copped the Females 8 and Under, with Rosnelle Snagg, the Females 9-12. Joseph and Snagg locked down the award for the overall female champion. Nicholas Sylvester placed first in the Male 8 and Under segment.
The 13-17 winner was Shaneece Culzac. Neisha Alexander secured the Female 18 and Under, and Steve Wallace, the Male 18 and Over.
Also, the spotlight shone on persons who have made sterling contributions to the Rickyâs Swim School and swimming in general.
Laverne Alexander and Wendell Lewis were recognized for their input in getting the sport afloat in its formative years. Both served as administrators and laid the groundwork for the building of swimming as a sport.
Wendy Victory and Bobby Brisbane received awards of appreciation for their assistance over the years.
After a fairly successful year of swimming, Rickydene Alexander of Rickyâs Swim School promised that 2008 would see more activities from his organization.
He still would like to see efforts made to have this country acquire a full size pool, so that the upcoming swimmers can hone their skills.(RT)
