Bentick’s hard work paying off

Numerous first-rate training sessions organized by national squash coach James Bentick reflected in the exceptional performance by five of St Vincent and the Grenadines’ top junior squash players in the recently concluded Barbados Junior Open.{{more}}

In the Tournament, which included top players from Barbados, Guyana and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Kevin Hannaway of SVG conquered his opponents from the very beginning. He cruised through to the finals in the male Under-15 and Under-17 categories, overpowering Jonathon O’David 9-5, 9-0, 91 and Moishe Steinboc to earn these two respective titles.

Amber Glasgow also showed some dominance as she crushed Zoe Lisk of Barbados in the semi finals of the Girls Under-19 draw, 9-0, 9-2, 9-3. She, however, went under to Caribbean champion Cherri-ann Parris in 3 straight sets to earn second place.

Jules Snagg played his heart out and earned 3rd position in the Boys Under-17 draw, after a close match with Jonathon O’ David, losing 7-9, 9-7, 9-6, 2-9 and 9-2.

Demi Ollivierre gave a creditable performance in the Girls Under-13 draw. She battled with teammate Kenica Alexander, losing

9-6, 10-8, 6-9, 4-9, 2-9 in a long yet exciting quarter final match. Kenica continued her battle as she fought against Mandy Haywood of Barbados, settling for third position in a nail biting match, ending in 3-2.
